Civilization 7 will get an atomic-age free update in 2027, Firaxis says
The Arc of Tomorrow update is promised to be 'even bigger in scope' than last year’s Test of Time, and a paid expansion called Earthrise was also announced
Sid Meier's Civilization VII will enter the atomic age in 2027 via a free update called Arc of Tomorrow, Firaxis said.
Firaxis described Arc of Tomorrow as a follow-up to last May's Test of Time overhaul and said the new free update will be "even bigger in scope". The studio also announced a first expansion, titled Earthrise.
Those plans were outlined alongside the release of update 1.5.0, which adds improved resource generation and an Earth map that places factions at their historically accurate start locations. The May Test of Time update brought extensive mechanical reworks and a lift in player numbers, but Steam reviews remain mixed, sitting at 51% positive.
Civilization VII currently ends its modern era around 1950 and only allows atomic bombs to be delivered by World War II bombers, leaving later Cold War technologies out of the game. Firaxis says Arc of Tomorrow will bring the series into the age of the A-bomb when it arrives in 2027.
