Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has received a surprise free Version 4.0.0 update that adds support for Nintendo Switch 2 and an eight-player split-screen mode on the new hardware.
The update also introduces CameraPlay player faces with camera support, faster loading times, and improved visuals described as clearer or sharper on Nintendo Switch 2. Version 4.0.0 adds a new VS Marathon mode and general performance improvements that take advantage of the newer console.
Video comparisons published after the patch show noticeably quicker load times and the visual differences between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and multiple outlets reported the changes as part of the free upgrade for the long-running title.
The update is available now as Version 4.0.0 for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at no extra cost.
