Parry is the tight-timing, high-reward option; dodge is the forgiving one. Chroma is the merchant currency; weapons upgrade on a separate material. Lumina is what a mastered Picto turns into once you've won four fights with it equipped.

How to build a character in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, explained

The weapon decides first — its scaling letters tell you which one or two attributes are worth your points — and skills, Pictos and Lumina all get chosen to fit that choice, not the other way round.
