Bungie will unvault older Destiny 2 campaigns and refocus Marathon after low player numbers
Studio says it will return previously vaulted campaigns, destinations and raids while evolving Marathon after it “did not reach as many players as we had hoped.”
Bungie will restore previously vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns, destinations and raids and will evolve Marathon after the extraction shooter, the studio said in a developer update.
The update frames the move as part of a broader plan to support Destiny 2 while building out new stories and games. Bungie said it intends to make older content available again rather than keep it locked away, and to use that work as part of a longer-term commitment to the franchise.
Marathon to be reworked
The studio acknowledged Marathon did not attract as many players as it hoped and said the title needs to change to reach a sustainable future. Bungie outlined plans to pivot the project toward a deeper survival-focused experience and continue iterating on its extraction-shooter systems.
Bungie’s leadership described these steps as part of restoring player trust and setting both Destiny 2 and Marathon on more stable paths, with the team prioritising bringing vaulted Destiny 2 content back into the live game while evolving Marathon’s design and business approach.
