GTA 6 will launch without microtransactions or generative AI, Rockstar says
Rockstar told Kinda Funny Games the November release will not include real-money purchases or generative AI systems at launch
Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch in November without microtransactions or generative AI, Rockstar Games said during a conversation with Kinda Funny Games earlier this week.
At a preview event that preceded the studio's GTA 6: Extended Look, Kinda Funny host Andy Cortez asked whether players would be able to spend real-world money inside the game. Cortez reported Rockstar's response as, "no monetizations in this game."
Greg Miller, also on the Kinda Funny panel, asked Rockstar "point-blank" whether generative AI was used in Grand Theft Auto 6. The studio told him there is "no AI" used in the game, according to the discussion.
Those statements arrive as the industry has been debating generative AI after recent controversies around its use in other releases, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Arc Raiders. Rockstar's comments make clear the studio intends no launch-time paid microtransactions or generative AI systems in Grand Theft Auto 6.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to arrive in November 2026.
