Microsoft guts Halo Studios and hands Halo to Activision
PC Gamer reports the studio was slashed during Microsoft's Xbox Reset and will no longer develop Halo games
Halo Studios has been gutted and will no longer make Halo, after Microsoft cut the team as part of its Xbox Reset layoffs.
PC Gamer reports what remains of the studio will now oversee the franchise in a reduced role, while Activision will assume responsibility for developing new Halo games.
The outlet notes Halo Studios was created and recently renamed with the express purpose of making new Halo entries, and that the cuts come a few months after the team shipped a Halo remake.
PC Gamer's writer argues the studio had produced strong work in places, saying Halo Infinite grew into a solid multiplayer experience and that Halo: Campaign Evolved represented the team's best effort to balance the series' traditions with change. The piece calls the decision to remove development from the studio a drastic one.
