Gears of War: E-Day story director laid off days after game went gold
Juan Vaca says on LinkedIn he is open to new opportunities and is among more than 260 people impacted in the latest Xbox cuts.
Gears of War: E-Day story director Juan Vaca was laid off by Microsoft days after the game went gold, and ahead of its October launch, Gamespot reports.
Vaca announced the news on LinkedIn, writing, "I am part of this round of Microsoft Layoffs and am open to new opportunities in games/film/TV," and asking teams that need a director or storyteller to reach out.
According to Gamespot, Vaca spent over four years at The Coalition working as story director on Gears of War: E-Day. His earlier credits include an internship at Marvel Studios, work as a narrative designer at Telltale Games, and three years at Netflix.
The Gamespot report says this round affected more than 260 people across Xbox, and that it follows a larger wave of cuts in July that removed 1,600 roles. The latest reorganizations include consolidation of Xbox studios under Activision Blizzard, Bethesda, and King, and have reached first-party developers, management, and central functions teams.
