What carries over to New Game Plus in Elden Ring?
Almost your whole character does — level, stats, weapons, upgrades, talismans, spells, gestures, and even the fully-marked map. What resets is the world itself: every Site of Grace goes dark again and every NPC questline starts over, though items you've already collected, including Remembrances you never redeemed, stay in your inventory.
The reset hits the world, not your character — Grace and questlines restart, your build doesn't.
Almost your whole character survives the jump into New Game Plus. Level, Runes, weapons and shields with all their upgrades, armor, Talismans, spells, Ashes of War, Spirit Ashes, gestures, and the fully-marked map with your own pins all carry over untouched. What resets is the state of the world, not your build.
| What | Carries over? |
|---|---|
| Level, Runes, stats | Yes |
| Weapons, armor, upgrades | Yes |
| Talismans, spells, Ashes of War, Spirit Ashes | Yes |
| Gestures, map & custom pins | Yes |
| Unclaimed Remembrances | Yes, kept in your inventory |
| Sites of Grace | No — every one goes unlit again |
| NPC questlines, story flags | No — they restart from the beginning |
| Great Runes, mending runes, area keys | No — quest items are consumed |
| Bell Bearings | Mixed — merchant/NPC bearings reset, crafting-material bearings like Smithing-Stone Miner's carry over |
Sites of Grace and NPC progress are the real reset. Every Grace you lit goes dark, and every questline — Ranni's, the Volcano Manor assassinations, Fia's — starts from scratch, so NPCs who died or moved on in your first run are back where they began. Doors you unlocked with keys reopen unlocked, since the keys themselves are consumed items and don't return.
The part people worry about losing is Remembrances: if you never redeemed one with Enia, it's still in your inventory in NG+, ready to trade for a weapon or Ash of War. What you can't do is farm a second Remembrance from a boss you already beat, even after a fresh kill in the new cycle. Bell Bearings are the exception with the most nuance — the ones that unlock a merchant's new stock reset if you haven't turned them in yet, while a handful of crafting-material bearings persist regardless.
You can go through Journey 8 (NG+7) before the difficulty plateaus; runes and enemy stats climb each cycle, though early areas gain far more (roughly 5x runes in Limgrave) than late-game zones (around 2x). If you'd rather not commit right after the final boss, the game lets you start Journey 2 later from the Table of Lost Grace at Roundtable Hold instead — the same respec rules and Larval Tear supply apply either way.
