Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026: every announcement, trailer and release date

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 was a two-hour sprint through world premieres, release dates, gameplay reveals and a few gloriously unexpected comebacks. This is the readable version of the show: the announcements worth knowing first, the trailers you can watch, and a complete table of every game or update shown.

The short version: HoYoverse opened with the unexpectedly dark Nodusfall, Ubisoft revealed Rainbow Six Tactics, Xbox confirmed Gears of War: E-Day for October 6, and the final segment belonged to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, its free remastered upgrade and the new Songs of the Past expansion.

The trailers to watch first

The show was built around videos, so here are the four reveals that deserve a direct click. Each trailer is embedded with YouTube's privacy-enhanced player, so it can be watched without leaving the recap; lazy loading keeps the page responsive on mobile.

Gears of War: E-Day — story trailer. The campaign-focused trailer reinforces the prequel angle and leads into the confirmed October 6, 2026 launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC, including Game Pass.

ANANTA — gameplay and launch date. The open-world urban RPG now has a global date: January 15, 2027. It is planned as a free-to-play release for PlayStation 5, PC and mobile.

Silent Hill: Townfall — cast reveal. Konami’s first-person psychological horror moves to Scotland and arrives on September 24, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC. The date is confirmed by Konami, not inferred from the show’s “coming next month” wording.

FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION — story trailer. Square Enix showed The Planet's Crisis, the story trailer for the next chapter of the Final Fantasy VII saga. It is planned for spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S.

What actually mattered in the show

New games and new directions

The two strongest world premieres arrived immediately. Nodusfall is a new action game from HoYoverse with a deliberately rougher, darker fantasy identity. Rainbow Six Tactics takes Siege’s Operators into a single-player, turn-based structure: Ubisoft describes 15 Operators, more than 45 locations and missions built around hostage rescue, bomb disposal and target elimination. The game is planned for 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and cloud services including GeForce Now and Blacknut.

Nodusfall — reveal trailer. HoYoverse went in a markedly darker direction with a fantasy action game that looks closer to a co-op monster hunt than to the studio’s usual glossy worlds. A date and platforms are still to be confirmed.

HUMANKIND II was shown in the pre-show as a new historical strategy game for PC, planned for 2027. Its pitch places climate change and the consequences of human development closer to the centre of the campaign. 1001 Threads of Mizan followed with a co-op action adventure for one to three players, coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. Roco Kingdom is the other notable new entry: an open-world multiplayer creature-collecting RPG, with a closed beta planned for October and a global release window still to be announced.

Rainbow Six Tactics — reveal trailer. Ubisoft turned Rainbow Six into a turn-based tactical game. It is announced for 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; no month yet.

The pre-show added Worms: Galactic Tactics, RollerCoaster Tycoon: Wonderworks, Perceptum, Acornia: Mirror Worlds, Valor Mortis, Tankrat, Murals, Elta: Defy All Gods, Age Twisters and Mariachi Legends. Among these, Valor Mortis has the clearest near-term date—October 13, 2026—while Mariachi Legends is scheduled for April 27, 2027.

The dates that moved the calendar

The next few months are unusually crowded. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy arrives August 27, followed by The Blood of Dawnwalker on September 2, Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 4 and Silent Hill: Townfall on September 24. Train Sim World 7 is also set for September 15, while creature collector Aniimo launches September 16.

Path of Exile 2 — version 1.0. Grinding Gear Games finally put a date on the full launch: December 11, 2026. The PlayStation 5 version also becomes free to play at 1.0.

October brings Rayman Legends Retold on October 1, Aion 2 on October 5, Gears of War: E-Day on October 6 and Valor Mortis on October 13. The new Rayman trailer’s hook is a playable Macarena music stage; it is a small detail, but a very effective one for a game built around spectacle.

EXODUS — release-date trailer. Archetype Entertainment's science-fiction RPG finally has a day: April 7, 2027, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The winter and 2027 windows are just as useful: Stage Tour launches December 10, Path of Exile 2 reaches 1.0 on December 11, ANANTA arrives January 15, Metro 2039 targets February, Road Kings is set for March 11, Exodus launches April 7, and Turok: Origins has moved to spring 2027.

Expansions, remasters and returning series

The biggest “not a new game” announcement was The Witcher 3. The September remastered upgrade is free for owners and adds visual, quality-of-life and presentation improvements; Songs of the Past is a separate story expansion planned for 2027. It is a proper new adventure, not a small bonus episode, and it is the reason the remaster and the DLC were presented together.

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past — world premiere. CD Projekt Red closed the show with Geralt’s return to a new region, new monsters and a new story expansion planned for 2027. The same presentation announced a free remastered upgrade for PC and current-generation consoles, scheduled for September 2026.

Other returning series received substantial footage: Mega Man: Dual Override showed Proto Man and a new boss, Turok: Origins confirmed its spring 2027 window, Crazy Taxi: World Tour showed multiplayer, and Stage Tour put a December 10 date on its rhythm-game revival. Onimusha: Way of the Sword also showed more combat and an expanded demo.

Metro 2039 — gameplay trailer. The Renegade trailer showed extended gameplay for the next Metro, planned for February 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The update column includes Crimson Desert: Enhanced, Control: Resonant, PUBG: ded.net, the Snoop Dogg collaboration for Hitman: World of Assassination, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, Dust: Origins, Silver Palace: House of Greed, Afterworld, Petit Planet, Showa American Story and Transport Fever 3. Some of these are full release news; others are new trailers or post-launch content, so the table below keeps those categories separate instead of pretending they are all the same kind of announcement.
