The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered launches September 29, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2 and PC
The free remastered upgrade arrives on September 29, while the new Songs of the Past expansion is planned for 2027.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting one more major return. CD PROJEKT RED and Yigsoft used gamescom Opening Night Live to reveal a free remastered upgrade for the RPG, alongside the first look at the new Songs of the Past expansion.
Remastered arrives on September 29
The remastered version launches on September 29, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The upgrade is presented as a free way for existing players to return to the game with a series of visual, technical and progression improvements.
Xbox Wire’s official breakdown points to upgraded textures across environments, NPCs and monsters, reworked lighting, and a redesigned skill-tree and character-building system. The update also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing progress to move between Xbox Series X|S, PC and supported handheld devices inside the Xbox ecosystem.
The goal is not to replace the original adventure, but to modernise the way it looks and plays while keeping the same campaign, world and characters that made The Witcher 3 a landmark RPG.
Songs of the Past is a full new chapter
The trailer’s larger surprise is Songs of the Past, a separate story expansion starring Geralt of Rivia. CD PROJEKT RED says it will launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The first footage introduces a new setting, new threats and a chain weapon that gives Geralt a different way to approach combat. The presentation deliberately keeps the wider story under wraps, but this is clearly positioned as a new adventure rather than a small cosmetic add-on or a short bonus quest.
The expansion also explains why CD PROJEKT RED paired the two announcements: the remastered upgrade gives players a cleaner way back into the Continent this September, while Songs of the Past extends that journey with a new chapter next year.
