Gears of War: E-Day developers fear layoffs and lost bonuses after launch
The Coalition staff worry Xbox will execute remaining division cuts before milestone payouts clear.
Developers working on Gears of War: E-Day at The Coalition fear they will face layoffs immediately after the game launches, Eurogamer reported, losing out on performance bonuses tied to the release.
The internal concern follows a broader reduction plan announced in July by Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma, which marked 3,200 roles for elimination across Microsoft's gaming division. Roughly half of those job cuts took place alongside the initial announcement, spreading across Activision, Bethesda, Id Software, Blizzard, Mojang, and King.
The remaining restructuring moves have already altered the wider Xbox studio roster, sending Double Fine and Compulsion into independent ownership while Arkane Lyon, Undead Labs, and Ninja Theory entered terms for outside acquisition.
