Xbox reveals disc-to-digital program
Microsoft says most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc games will support it, and Polygon reports the rollout starts at the end of August 2026.
Xbox's disc-to-digital program was revealed on August 26, 2026, allowing players to claim digital entitlements from supported physical discs, and Microsoft said the feature will work for most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc-based games.
In Microsoft's blog post the company described the process, saying, "Players can claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X console and launching the game."
Polygon reported the feature will begin rolling out at the end of August 2026, and that the initial availability covers select titles on Xbox One and Series X/S.
Microsoft framed the system as a way to "bring the benefits of digital to physical discs," giving players more flexibility when they want a digital copy tied to their account rather than swapping physical media.
